New Philanthropy Capital (NPC)
Charity registration

When we ask you to register your organisation on our database, we ask you to provide some evidence of the results that your organisation achieves, given the nature of our research.

Evidence of your results might be anywhere between hard statistics and quantitative evidence, and softer results, such as feedback from the people you work with. We are interested in the full range of evidence you have.

Here are two examples of how charities might describe themselves and their results.

Organisation: CSV's Retired & Senior Volunteer Programme (RSVP)

Brief description of organisation:
RSVP currently manages over 350 projects and 11,000 volunteers across the UK, in three broad areas: health and social care, education and environment. It is focusing on encouraging volunteering in deprived areas, where the potential benefits are greatest but volunteering has traditionally struggled to establish itself.

Evidence of organisation's results:
Although RSVP finds it difficult to capture its impact on volunteers, feedback and research show that volunteering improves health, confidence and self-esteem. In addition NPC calculates that RSVP contributes at least £20m in volunteers' time to the UK economy.

Organisation: beatbullying

Brief description of organisation:
beatbullying works with young people in schools and youth groups to develop anti-bullying initiatives and change attitudes. It runs courses in schools using fun activities such as football to educate young people and trains professionals. Its website receives over 300,000 visits per year and its campaigns are visible to many more.

Evidence of organisation's results:
Schools and youth groups report that after working with beatbullying, incidences of bullying drop by 39%. At the same time, reporting of bullying increases by 60%.

Organisation: Global Witness

Brief description of organisation:
Global Witness campaigns worldwide to prevent misuse of natural resources. In particular it has taken a lead in analysing and addressing the poverty, conflict, human rights abuse, corruption and environmental destruction experienced by countries that derive a major share of their wealth from natural resources.

Evidence of organisation's results:
In 2006, Global Witness lobbied for the closure of the Chinese/Burmese border to a £125m-a-year illegal timber trade. By getting the border closed, Global Witness has managed to prevent the destruction of over 200,000 trees every year, protecting an area of forest more than four times the size of Wales. This is one example of a broad range of results achieved by the organisation.

Charity insight

"150,000 children have a parent in prison. Many of them find prison visits distressing or intimidating, so 45% of prisoners lose contact with their family."

KIDS VIP helps to establish play areas in prison visitor centres. Each month, around 60,000 children use these facilities.
