There are several steps involved in the philanthropy process, which are outlined in the diagram below. Getting objective information about areas you want to support can be difficult. Greater impact can be achieved by focusing on specific areas combined with an understanding of need.

Once you’ve decided where to focus your giving, you need to choose specific charities to support, work out the best ways of supporting them and make sure you get the appropriate feedback to measure the results.

Reviewing your funding

The foundation may not be satisfied with the results of its giving. Undertaking a thorough review of its funding – looking at your objectives, processes and grant history – can help you achieve a higher social return.
