Emilie Goodall, NPC analyst, has been chosen as one of the top 35 women under 35, according to the business magazine Management Today. Described in The Sunday Times as a ‘woman to watch’, at only 25, Emilie is one of the youngest on the list and one of only a handful of people from the not-for-profit sector.

Talkin 'bout my generation'

An unlikely pop group, The Zimmers, have hammered home a message about the extraordinary isolation and deprivation that older people in this country face. Their hit single, “Talkin 'bout my generation”, is rising up the pop charts and is one of the most popular videos on YouTube and MySpace. Beacon Fellowship celebrates inspiring philanthropists

The Beacon Fellowship Charitable Trust is getting the British to relax their stiff upper lip and celebrate giving. It is calling for nominations for the 2007 Beacon Prize. With awards in 6 categories and prize of £30,000 for the overall winner to donate to the charity of their choice, the award celebrates people who have made a significant charitable contribution in giving time, money or skills to a cause.

2007 is a Year of Reading too

The education secretary Alan Johnson announced that 2008 will be a ‘National Year of Reading’. With one in five eleven year olds struggling to read, helping children to learn is more crucial than ever. For donors wanting to change children’s lives in 2007, charities like Volunteer Reading Help and Reading Matters are already providing the answer.

Listen up: Magic Me and Core Arts

Two of NPC's recommended charities are on the airwaves. Magic Me will be talking about their latest projects on BBC Radio 4 on 12 March. The documentary will explore how the charity is helping to change the face of the East End through their arts schemes. The charity brings together children and older people of different ethnicities to break down barriers between these groups. Core Arts, a charity which uses the arts to break down prejudices surrounding mental health problems has put all of its member on MySpace. One of its sites has gone cult and been played on Radio 1 and stations in Australia. Click here to listen to the Eastenders Reggae MC.
Five charities to receive funds from new Private Equity Foundation

A new Private Equity Foundation (PEF), backed by more than 70 companies in the private equity industry, gave out its first grants to five charities this week. New Philanthropy Capital worked with the PEF on the selection of the charities and is also supporting the day-to-day management of the foundation.

Successful Guardian and Observer Christmas Appeals

This year the combined appeals, which were advised on by NPC raised around £242,000 for mental health charities. Nigel Harris, Chief Executive of NPC added: 'the Christmas Appeals have also helped to tackle the lack of awareness that is at the root of many problems faced by people with mental health issues'.
