NPC delivers philanthropy training courses to wealth advisors

NPC have recently delivered training courses to two separate wealth management companies.

One private bank, which was setting up a philanthropy offering for their clients worldwide, wanted to develop a common approach for dealing with clients wanting advice on philanthropy. NPC trained 10 individuals who will be leading the philanthropy offering from across Europe and Asia in:

  • The philanthropic advisory process – different stages of the advice process, what it means to be a philanthropy advisor, how to develop objectives and a strategy with a client and supporting clients in their philanthropy eg, finding charities, reporting and monitoring on grants
  • Charity analysis and selection – how to assess charities and put together a proposed portfolio for funding

The training, over two days, drew on NPC’s expertise in advising clients and analysing charities, and shared many of our approaches and experience. It also included two practice sessions analysing a charity and putting together a charity portfolio for a client.

NPC also ran a 90 minute session for 15-20 advisors from another wealth management company. The session covered:

  • An introduction to philanthropy – trends in the industry and how providing philanthropy advice can help build relationships with clients
  • An overview of the philanthropic advisory process – from starting up to reviewing philanthropy to date
  • Questions to discuss with a client thinking about philanthropy, and how to engage a client on philanthropy.
