Scottish charities stand to benefit from UK's largest ever donation
Tom Hunter, the billionaire retail entrepreneur and Scotland’s richest man, today pledged one of the largest ever donations to charity in the UK. Hunter started off on the road to fortune selling trainers in a garage before founding the sports chain Sport Division. He has announced his plan to give more than £1bn away to good causes before he dies.
Hunter is one of a growing number of wealthy donors, dubbed ‘the new philanthropists’, who, between them, have donated millions to charity. As well as funding projects in Africa alongside Bill Clinton, Hunter is also committed to giving closer the home. His Hunter Foundation, which he runs with his wife Marion, and which will receive most of his £1 billion donation, supports educational and entrepreneurial projects in Scotland.
Philanthropists without such large wallets can still give to local causes. NPC analysts visit charities across the whole of the British Isles. They have identified a number of fantastic charities in Scotland, ranging from one tackling gang warfare in Glasgow to another running theatre workshops for people struggling with mental health problems.
Using this unique research, NPC provides bespoke advice for all kinds of clients, on how to ensure their giving makes an impact. For more information on this, contact Harry Charlton on 020 7785 6309 or hcharlton@philanthropycapital.org
