NPC's report on truancy and exclusion, School's Out? was launched at a school in Notting Hill

“All we try to do is give the children a sense of hope and a belief in what they can achieve.” These were the words of Paul Moody, head of Walmer Road School, at the donors’ launch of NPC’s report on truancy and exclusion.

Although he was referring to the school he runs in Notting Hill, Moody could have been talking on behalf of the many charity workers who work with children that play truant and run the risk of exclusion.

Often, providing children with the emotional support they need can make all the difference. Offering an alternative to mainstream education is another way that charities help struggling children and young people. Charities also provide practical support for children, advice for parents and training for teachers and other professionals. These important roles were highlighted in NPC’s recent School’s out? report - click here to download the report on truancy and exclusion.

Other speakers at the launch were: Sarah Evans (Trustee of the Rugby-Portobello Trust), Emilie Goodall (NPC analyst and the author of the report), Danny John Jules (actor) and Peter Wheeler (Trustee of NPC).
