NPC pilots new charity consulting service
NPC is piloting a new charity consulting service to help non-profit organisations improve their performance. This bespoke service is aimed at helping charities to measure the results of their work and use this information to improve effectiveness and convey the impact they are making.
The new service is being developed in response to the interest among charities in improving how they measure their effectiveness. The service will complement the materials being developed by NPC’s Measurement team and will be part of a suite of services that NPC offers donors and funders.
NPC makes a clear distinction between the charity analysis it does already and this new charity consulting service it will be offering:
- Charity analysis involves applying our standard methodology to assess the charity as a whole and this is done as part of our sector research and charity recommendation process.
- Charity consulting will focus specifically on improving performance, with the aim of helping charities to measure, communicate and use results data to maximize effectiveness.
In order to manage any potential conflicts that may arise from this new area of work, NPC and its charity clients will be transparent about all advisory work undertaken. This includes declaring on our charity recommendation documents if we have done (or are doing) any advisory work and instituting a shut-down period between undertaking charity analysis and charity consulting projects.
A number of checks are already in place to preserve the independence of NPC’s research and charity recommendations. These include:
- applying a consistent methodology when analysing charities;
- using a standard grading system to select charity recommendations; and
- most importantly, charging an independent Charity Committee with the responsibility of vetting all charity recommendations.
