A great result for a children’s hospice

Aston Villa announced that it will be wearing the name of Acorns, a children’s hospice, across its shirts next year, rather than seeking new sponsorship, which last year netted the club £2 million. Using music to help stroke and dementia sufferers

Independent body needed to assess charities’ performance

Speaking last night at the RSA (Royal Society for the encouragement of Arts, Manufactures & Commerce), Martin Brookes, NPC’s Director of Research, said that charities would benefit from external assessment. He proposed that the new body should sit alongside, but separate from the Charity Commission to scrutinise the performance of charities.

Execution Limited raises over £1.5m for charity

Execution Limited, a London-based stockbrokerage that NPC advises, has raised over £1.5m during its 2007 charity trading day. The commission generated at the annual events is donated to charities around the UK. This year’s total was 50% up on 2006.

Scottish charities stand to benefit from UK’s largest ever donation

Tom Hunter, the billionaire retail entrepreneur and Scotland’s richest man, today pledged one of the largest ever donations to charity in the UK. As well as funding projects in Africa, Hunter is also committed to giving closer the home. His Hunter Foundation, which he runs with his wife Marion, and which will receive most of his £1 billion donation, supports educational and entrepreneurial projects in Scotland.
