Children's well-being seminar

NPC and the Charity Finance Directors Group are hosting a breakfast seminar, Counting feelings, to explore the benefits and challenges of charities and funders measuring their impact on the happiness of the young people they support or work with. (This is a repeat of a seminar on the same topic in December that was fully booked).

When: 8-10am 21 April (formal proceedings from 8:30 – 9:45am, with networking over coffee and pastries before and afterwards)
Where: Downstream building, 1 London Bridge, SE1 9BG
Bookings: CFDG website (£35 for CFDG members and £45 for non-members)

The speakers are:

  • Ross Hendry, Director of Policy at 11Million, the organisation led by the Children's Commissioner for England, who will chair the seminar
  • Camilla Nevill, NPC quantitative analyst and author of Feelings count, who will introduce NPC’s measurement tool on children’s well-being;
  • Thaddeus Douglas, Policy and Research Manager at Beatbullying, who will share lessons about the charity’s initiative to measure the well-being of their beneficiaries;
  • Alison Pollard, Evaluation and Research Analyst from the Big Lottery Fund’s well-being programme, who will provide a donor’s perspective on measurement.

What can economics offer the third sector?

Time: 12th March, 11am-1pm. Sandwiches from 12.30
Venue: New Philanthropy Capital, 1 London Bridge, SE1 9BG.

With The University of Bristol, NPC is organising a lunchtime workshop to explore new opportunities for academics and not-for-profit practitioners to work together.

New funding from the Office of the Third Sector and the Economic and Social Research Council is available to allow not-for-profits to access relevant expertise within the academic community. The aim is to help organisations assess the impact and value of what they do and to use analysis and data to improve service delivery.

The workshop will provide an opportunity for you to learn more about the funding opportunities and for us to learn more about what you would like the projects to deliver.

If you are interested in coming, or know someone who would be, please contact Amanda Edmondson from the University of Bristol to register.

'NPC is an independent charity that analyses charity performance in social welfare... Ministers privately speak approvingly of NPC and its attempt to separate fact from myth in the opaque world of charity performance.'

Patrick Butler, Society Guardian
