NPC's mission and vision

Mission

NPC's mission is to put effectiveness at the heart of how charities work and how funders give, so that more lives can be changed for the better.

Vision

Our vision is a world in which charities and their funders are as effective as possible in changing people's lives and in tackling social problems. In this world:

  • charities are effective — they use evidence to plan what they do, measure the results of their work, adjust their approach accordingly, communicate their results transparently, and attract support based on their impact.
  • funders are effective — they seek effective charities to give to, fund charities appropriately, review their funding based on the results generated, and measure their own impact.
  • the marketplace linking charities and funders is effective — information, analysis and research flow freely.

Delivering our vision

Core commitments

Our activities are underpinned by three commitments:

  • A commitment to public knowledge: this drives us to share all our research, methodologies and frameworks for free, helping to develop the marketplace.
  • A commitment to innovation and development: this involves finding new solutions to overcome barriers that we identify through our research into effectiveness.
  • A commitment to developing a market: this means that, in addition to our work directly with funders and charities, we support initiatives to facilitate and increase charity and funder effectiveness, for example through developing partnerships.

Unique model

In delivering our vision, NPC draws on a powerful combination of knowledge, skills, approaches and contacts built up in our Consulting, Research and Communications teams. This combination of activities, and the interaction between them, is what makes NPC unique. We are able to advise clients, drawing on our specialist knowledge of researching and measuring charities' impact. In turn, our consulting work contributes to our knowledge of charity and funder effectiveness and this informs our broader efforts to improve the charity sector.

'It was harder than we thought to give our money away. We were frightened of getting it wrong. Having someone who would make sure all the boxes were ticked was a huge relief.'
