About New Philanthropy Capital (NPC)

New Philanthropy Capital (NPC) is a consultancy and think tank dedicated to helping funders and charities to achieve a greater impact. We provide independent research, tools and advice for charities and funders, in the UK and internationally.

NPC aims to:

Build world-class research and tools to understand and increase the impact achieved by charities and their funders, and to share this as widely as possible;

Provide first-rate advice and consulting services to help charities and funders maximise their impact;

Inspire and lead the debate about what makes effective charities and how this can be measured.

What makes NPC different?

NPC's research and consulting team focuses on the charity sector, bringing a powerful combination of knowledge, skills and approaches. Our analysts have both quantitative and qualitative research expertise, and our advice is based on in-depth knowledge of philanthropy and social issues, and our unique charity analysis methodology.

Our clients value the way we involve them and their colleagues in our projects. We have specialist knowledge in measuring and communicating results (including 'soft' outcomes, such as well-being), and an in-depth understanding of the context in which charities and funders operate.

Who we are

NPC's 30-strong team spans a range of backgrounds — from charities to consultancy, banking to academia. NPC is based in Park Street, on London's South Bank. Meet our team of researchers, consultants and other experts, and find out about working for us.

Mission and vision

NPC's mission is to put effectiveness at the heart of how charities work and how funders give, so that more lives can be changed for the better. Our vision is a world in which charities and their funders are as effective as possible in improving people's lives and creating lasting change to tackle social problems.

  • For charities, this means focusing on activities that achieve a real difference, using evidence of results to improve performance, making good use of resources, and being ambitious to solve problems. This requires high-quality leadership and staff, and good financial management.
  • For funders, this means understanding what makes charities effective and supporting their endeavours to become effective. It includes using evidence of charities' results to make funding decisions and to measure their own impact.

'I wanted to start making strategic grants very quickly without having to get up the learning curve fast myself or to hire my own staff to do it. Using NPC enabled the foundation to double the size of its giving in the UK.'
